In case you are getting calls from the wonderful people at NCO Financial Systems. You should read some messages people have posted about this company. Apart from having to pay $1.5 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), there are also many many claims of state and federal violations of legislation like the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

The company purchases old debt from people like your cellphone provider, hospitals and the government for pennies on the dollar and then tries to collect it. You may have even already paid the bill, like I had, but that is really a minor irrelevant point. The reality is, much if not most of this debt is so old noone has any obligation to repay any of it, least of all not to NCO. Many people have been harassed for debt belonging to neighbors, relatives, old residents of the same address, and co-workers. Don’t pay NCO a penny.

If you receive letters or phone calls from NCO or phone numbers like
800-709-8625 or 888-804-3488 or 877-803-8009 or 800-541-2742 or 888-688-7929 or 800-445-4918 or 866-569-8956 or 800-218-1175 or 800-448-9576 or 800-684-8429 or 866-429-3592 or 800-976-8307 or 877-871-6484 or 800-735-6588 or 800-220-1942 or 877-778-1799 or 800-227-4000 or 800-807-7809 or 866-626-9112 or 866-425-8131 or 800-967-4100 or 877-252-4534 or 877-202-9074 or 888-691-8955 or 888-259-3021 or 800-437-7403 or
800-383-4761 or 866-360-9791 you should read this page about the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If NCO does anything wrong with you, you could be entitled to $1000 per infraction and they may have to pay your lawyer and possibly even your debt.

To halt their “contact”, send NCO a certified, return-receipt cease and desist letter (they throw away all faxes and non-certified letters). A sample letter might read (though, you must seek real legal advice, which I’m not):

This is to advise you that pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) 15 USC 1692c(c), you are hereby notified to immediately terminate any contact with me, or any members of my family or household, regarding any matter concerning the collection of a debt you allege is owed to your company or to your principal/customer/client. This notice shall include, but is not limited to written correspondence, as well as telephonic communication. This letter also verifies that I live at the address above, therefore, any further locator attempts would be a violation of the FDCPA.

Their address is:
NCO Financial Systems, Inc.
507 Prudential Rd
Horsham, PA 19044-2308

Is NCO calling you? Do you have a new NCO phone number or information? Please leave a comment and share it with the rest of us. Thanks!

NCO may or may not report your debt dispute with them on your credit report. It is important to make sure that if NCO puts anything on your credit report, all of the information is accurate, such as date of debt, last activity on account and the correct amount. That information is not always placed on all three major reports and your valid creditors usually only check one of these sources, so make sure you check all three (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian) for correct information.

Oh, and Miss Hill, thanks for calling ;)

Important! File a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General – easy online form (NCO is a PA company and PA is investigating NCO)

P.S. The Pennsylvania Attorney General recently finished a big case against them, though the complaints continue.

  1. NCO HAS BEEN CALLING MY PHONE FOR OVER A YEAR LOOKING FOR SOMEONE ELSE. DESPITE REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO GET THEM TO STOP CALLING – I AM AT MY WITS END. APPARENTLEY WHEN THEY CAN’T LOCATE SOMEONE THEY START CALLING PEOPLE WITH THE SAME NAME, SAME NEIGHBORHOOD ETC. IF THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE AND I’M SURE IT IS , I THINK WE WOULD HAVE A SHOT AT A HUGE CLASS ACTION SUIT THAT MAY FINALLY MAKE THEM REALIZE THE ERROR OF THEIR WAYS.

  2. Received a call today at 3:28 PDT from 866-315-2497. Did not answer and they did not leave a message. I called back to see if anyone would answer, and a woman answered and asked my name. Only gave first name and she then said my last name (maybe my caller ID is not blocked as it should be?), and told me it was for two outstanding bills from LAFD for brush clearance. Told her that was incorrect, as I’ve never received a notice, and could she send me the backup…when she asked if it should be sent to xx address, it was my previous residence which I sold in 2005. Told her whatever she’s doing, not my responsibility.

  3. I got an automated call from them this morning at 8:00. I called back to see what they had. I have referred them to my attorney. They have a program, through an attorney’s office, in Oregon that helps seniors and disabled with these kind of problems. It is called Help Eliminate Legal Problems for Seniors and Disabled. It is to stop all the harrassment calls, letters, etc. It also protects youfrom creditors illegally attaching your bank account and taking your Social Security & Pension income. It is my understanding that there are other states with similar programs. For information in Oregon 1-855-435-7787.

  6. document all calls received, numbers, times and what or who they are trying to collect a debt from. Document all calls for several days, weeks, whatever then contact your State Attorney General. They will handle it.

    • My student loans was discharged in a bankruptcy before the new law changed and there were no exception in the Judge’s discharge of my debts. I have told them repeatedly about this and I have told them where to go and how to get there and now they’re back.

They quit for awhile after I filed my complaint with the CA attorney general.

Will not ever call their numbers, if they can’t give us info, we’re not going to offer any! Ah, the hazards of a land line! Scary to hear that they are calling other peoples’ cell phones.

  12. I have been getting calls from NCO too. I also get calls from other groups too. I don’t answer these calls, but they are so annoying. I also think something should be done when they call your cell or text you. Many people have a set number of texts per month or calls for their cell. This is one time I think the government needs to step in and stop these groups from bothering people.

  13. Get several calls a week from NCO Financial Systems asking that I return a call to them. This is regarding a bogus debt from Progressive insurance company. I have told them repeatedly that I cancelled the Auto-Insurance policy with Progressive several months ago, and have the cancellation letter to prove it. I contacted Progressive about the matter, and they agreed. NCO calls sometimes twice per day from several different numbers. May 25, 2012 9:09 am; May 29, 2012 2:51 pm; May 31, 2012 9:10 am; June 4, 2012 3:21 pm; June 5, 2012 5:12 pm; June 8, 2012 2:58 pm; June 11, 2012 6:07 pm; June 12, 2012 8:47 pm; June 13, 2012 8:22 am…..these are the last 9 calls. 3 calls in may only 6 days apart, first 4 in June 7 days apart (illegal according to Pa. law and NCO is a Pa. Company currently under investigation, they are only allowed 3 per week on LEGITIMATE debts.) 6 calls in June so far and only 9 days apart for a debt I do not even owe!!!! I Want it stopped!!!!

  14. I can give you some advise.
1 to stop collection calls in any state get a tape recorder. A cheap one is the best.
2 Paper trail write them a letter very firm that states they are to cease all phone calls to you and anything they have to say put it in writing,
3 change your phone number and unlist it Pay the $10 to Zaba to remove all reference to where you live You can find that on Zaba.com
take them to Attorney Generals office. Pay Pals not a financal institution or s bank . If you can get into your account remove your Social Security Number and Change your banking accounts and any cards linked.

They just started bothering us about a couple weeks ago. We blocked all their calls and yet they still won’t leave us alone about her debt! Is that even legal?

Either send them a cease and decist order certified with a return receipt or be smart enough to not answer or respond to their calls. Calling back only makes their day.

The person that called was looking for a relative and claimed that the relative had applied for a job with them and gave me as a reference. They were missing some info and the phone number they had for the relative was not a good number. They wanted to know if I knew the person and if I had their phone number. I got the person’s name and number and told her I would call her right back. The number she gave was 800-388-4519. I called it and it is NCO Financial. So I googled the name and look what I found.

I have no intention of calling them back. I may send a certified cease and desist letter. Glad I did a search to find this info!

What is so bad I do not know who this is. This company did not give the bank a phone just some numbers and letters . I did not give this company authorasation to go into my bank account. OVER DROWN HELP!

    • Call your bank and tell them that you didn’t authorize the transactions. They may have to open a new account for you and close your old one so that NCO no longer has a valid account number to keep charging you at. And make sure you’re adamant about the fact you never authorized the company in the first place. The bank should then dismiss all your overdraft fees. If they don’t, get a different bank. I recommend a credit union, but that’s just my opinion. Good luck!

They’ve gone to a judge and are now garnishing my wages. As you can imagine I’m pretty pissed off about it but not sure I can do much at all. They are taking 25% of my pay weekly, argh!

He said he would – it will take 24 hours – and then he asked if a certain person was available. A guy that worked here over ten years ago. My advice – call the number & ask them to put you on their Do Not Call List. Good luck!!

The rep is named Ms. Pritchard and she has been harassing me at my job for the last month. I believe that it’s regarding student loans, however; I was working with the DOE on this matter. She has left back to back messages and even had one of my employees transfer her to my boss; he in fact sent her to my phone instead. Isn’t there a law prohibiting them from this type of harassment. Does the consumer have any recourse for this action? I’m thinking of sending a cease and desist letter to the? Please let me know how you have handled this situation.

No one bothers me for that one and I will check it out – but… did the bank really get paid? Update to follow.

Besides that my credit score is very high. Besides that my wife has had 16 surgerys and is now recoperating from the latest one. I am 77 and my wife is 76. I don’t need these calls. Does anybody think I can be added to the list of the many lawsuits against these people. Think I will ask my lawyer. I have a lawyer that just LOVES to go after compaines like this. 37. Have been getting calls from NCO Financial off and on since Feb. 28. They always leave a message, to call back to phone # 888-871-8464. The first time they called from 800-448-9570. From Feb. 28 until March 7 — just over a week — there were no more calls. Then on March 7 they called with the 888-871-8464 number showing in the caller ID, as it has on each additional call. Since then, they have called on March 13, March 15, and again today, March 16. Each time they leave a message to call “Dan Radechak,” though the voice and accent differ, and today it was a female who told us to call Dan back. They give some sort of ID number to use when calling back.

I am not in the habit of making telephone calls to people who make unsolicited calls to me. Sounds like a scam, as we do not have any debt we are aware of, and all our credit cards are paid up. So, let them send us some first-class mail detailing their business with us, and giving us an account number and an address to which we can correspond.

  40. Received 2 calls this week from the following number (800-786-9330), claiming to be from NCO Financial Systems, Inc. and basically indicating their intent on collecting a debt. Just like the others mentioned on previous comments. If no one can stop these folks even after submitting a cease/desist letter, why even go through the drill? I’m located in Ohio and if NCO Financial is not even being supported by the Pennsylvania lawmakers, what makes you think it can be taken care of in Ohio? I believe we’re all looking for a sure fire fix to these harrassment calls. You also mentioned that you could receive $1000 per harrassment. Did anyone get any compensation regarding their harrassment calls? Sure would like to hear from others out there concerning this situation.

  41. I just started receiving calls from NCO during the last week. They’ve called about three times so far. The number is 877-273-3495. It goes “This is an attempt to collect a debt . . .” then tells me to call someone at some number, then repeats that they are attempting to collect, and hangs up. I never had time (or inclination) to catch the name and/or number, but having just gone through bankruptcy I know that any alleged debt must be bogus. I’ve been through my financial history with a fine tooth comb over the last two years, and any debt has been discharged. Still, I realize that I can’t just ignore this even though the last thing I want to do is get sucked into another money debacle.
