In case you are getting calls from the wonderful people at NCO Financial Systems. You should read some messages people have posted about this company. Apart from having to pay $1.5 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), there are also many many claims of state and federal violations of legislation like the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

The company purchases old debt from people like your cellphone provider, hospitals and the government for pennies on the dollar and then tries to collect it. You may have even already paid the bill, like I had, but that is really a minor irrelevant point. The reality is, much if not most of this debt is so old noone has any obligation to repay any of it, least of all not to NCO. Many people have been harassed for debt belonging to neighbors, relatives, old residents of the same address, and co-workers. Don’t pay NCO a penny.

If you receive letters or phone calls from NCO or phone numbers like
800-709-8625 or 888-804-3488 or 877-803-8009 or 800-541-2742 or 888-688-7929 or 800-445-4918 or 866-569-8956 or 800-218-1175 or 800-448-9576 or 800-684-8429 or 866-429-3592 or 800-976-8307 or 877-871-6484 or 800-735-6588 or 800-220-1942 or 877-778-1799 or 800-227-4000 or 800-807-7809 or 866-626-9112 or 866-425-8131 or 800-967-4100 or 877-252-4534 or 877-202-9074 or 888-691-8955 or 888-259-3021 or 800-437-7403 or
800-383-4761 or 866-360-9791 you should read this page about the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If NCO does anything wrong with you, you could be entitled to $1000 per infraction and they may have to pay your lawyer and possibly even your debt.

To halt their “contact”, send NCO a certified, return-receipt cease and desist letter (they throw away all faxes and non-certified letters). A sample letter might read (though, you must seek real legal advice, which I’m not):

This is to advise you that pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) 15 USC 1692c(c), you are hereby notified to immediately terminate any contact with me, or any members of my family or household, regarding any matter concerning the collection of a debt you allege is owed to your company or to your principal/customer/client. This notice shall include, but is not limited to written correspondence, as well as telephonic communication. This letter also verifies that I live at the address above, therefore, any further locator attempts would be a violation of the FDCPA.

Their address is:
NCO Financial Systems, Inc.
507 Prudential Rd
Horsham, PA 19044-2308

Is NCO calling you? Do you have a new NCO phone number or information? Please leave a comment and share it with the rest of us. Thanks!

NCO may or may not report your debt dispute with them on your credit report. It is important to make sure that if NCO puts anything on your credit report, all of the information is accurate, such as date of debt, last activity on account and the correct amount. That information is not always placed on all three major reports and your valid creditors usually only check one of these sources, so make sure you check all three (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian) for correct information.

Oh, and Miss Hill, thanks for calling ;)

Important! File a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General – easy online form (NCO is a PA company and PA is investigating NCO)

P.S. The Pennsylvania Attorney General recently finished a big case against them, though the complaints continue.

  1. NCO Financial Services keeps calling trying to collect a debt for someone with a similar name. They never leave a message but the two times I’ve picked up by mistake they were very aggressive. I’ve blocked the number but even if this was a real debt, I’d never give any money to these criminals. The FDCPA makes it clear that these low-lives are breaking the law by harassing for old or non-existent debt…and the Internet makes it clear that they don’t honor the deals they offer you to settle debt. Give them nothing…

  4. Hi my name is Justin and NCO’s number I got is 800-824-9392. I had a debt with Military Star card and a few miss payments and stopped receiving notices in the mail from AAFES and I got out of the military. Never received any more notifications and thought on the way out with my seperation pay I paid them… I guess not they offset my taxes in 2012 and paid them around 2,000 and before then I guess I owed them 4,000 so that dropped down to 2,600 and something. They than slapped wage garnishments on me and I filed my 2013 taxes and Jackson Hewitt confirmed that it will be offsetted again and I called them about it and now I owe them 3,100 and I am wondering how I owe them that much after months of Garnished wages and they said my company did not garnish any more wages sense Januaray which I paid them $78 dollars… So now I am stuck in a rut in trying to get them to send me notices so I can add them to my consolidation firm but they told me they sent out 6 notices and bill to my current address and I still yet to receive them…. Now they refuse to fax me anything but payment history and I gave them my fax number and still waiting on that report… Cause I want verification I been scammed before over the phone and refuse to be scammed again…. JUst frusterated and confuesed on how these people are still in buisness with all these complaints and what not… I am not a happy camper….Not sure what too do either…

  6. These people wouldn’t leave me alone about a 10 year old debt until I hired a company to help me deal with it (Steven at Credit Repair 888-986-1534). it took me a little time but I finally got these bottom feeders to piss off.

  7. I show a debt on my credit report. I decided to call them to get the exact amount I may owe, but the phone number I have is actually a number for AT&T. 800-207-3081. I’m currently trying to reach the Creditor they say I owe to see if this is legit. If so, I’ll pay them directly and not NCO. Just hope that I can get it off my credit report!

  8. NCO has called me 5 times in 3 weeks. The first 4 calls were from 800-448-9570. The 5th call came from a “NJ” number 201-918-4570 (I have a NJ phone number). They call at 7am. I have never answered. They leave no information pertinant to me: not my name, not where I live, not the debt, nothing. I have no debt. My credit report is uber clean. How do I get them to stop?

  11. These people have no standing to collect a debt. What you need to do is send the cease and desist letter as mentioned, with a twist. Demand the ink signed contract with them, and this is the key, that you entered into a contract with them.
Give them thirty days. They will not be able to produce this. Then send a certified letter to the original creditor asking for a letter stating settlement received. If they sold the debt to one of these sharks, they have a record of settlement. Then demand they remove these listings from your credit report and further any action on the account, and iny inquiries soft or hard will involve a legal action, or just the action of the fines due under federal law for these practices. Take the offensive. No dry ink contract, no standing. And it is that simple.

3,454 times in the past 3 years.

A Mrs Ogle is one of the names mentioned in their calls.

The calls start at 8pm and go to 9pm Mon-Sun

Day after day, they never stop, they are assholes. I cannot use my Landline because of their calls.

And no, I do not owe anyone any monies

They said they will not disclose why they called if I don’t provide my personal data. So I have no clue why they called.

  15. Got a call from someone saying they had a personal matter to discuss with my husband. Call came from 800-448-9570. She said she was from NCO but when asked, she said those letters didn’t stand for anything. Said she couldn’t tell me what it was about because it was a personal matter between her and my husband and she was very snippy. Her contact info for him to call back is: 888-889-6647, ext. 4335. I know it isn’t anything recent that could be making them call. If it is anything, it has to be over 10 years old. Sounds like a scam, as we do not have any debt we are aware of, and we do not own any credit cards.

  16. The only way to get them to stop is to call the CEO of NCO Financial, Mr. Ron Rittenmeyer. He lives in Plano, TX and his phone is (972) 618-9572. Call and ask for someone in NCO that can get you removed from the list. When I called him he was annoyed with me for calling him at his home. I told him that I get calls all the time thanks to his company! So I post this so that everyone can give him a taste of his own medicine.

Bug thrse folks enough and you will get somewhere (if they have not left NCO as of yet)

For fun, you may want to call Ron Whermyer NC in Charlotte, NC 704) 523-8444, (800) 727-8444 or Bobbi Caggianelli in Lenaxa, KS (913) 451-3333.

  19. I paid my debt of $193 in 2010. When I ran my credit score in 2011 it was still there. I vaguely remembered paying it, but just wanted it off my report so I paid again. I just pulled my credit report and they are still on there as a delinquent account for the same amount of money. I disputed it, but the worst part is they are the only ones keeping my score lower than I should have. What should I do further to be sure they are removed from my report for good!

  20. Yes, I’m getting calls from NCO, too: from my phone company’s Privacy Director service. Message says, “Call back 800-786-3930 ~ Refer to ID #——“. Mine is a legitimate debt, medical, which I am appealing through my insurance. I tried to call NCO just to tell them this, but the woman who replied to the message I left had no knowledge of NCO. She said she was with “Thompson Law” and asked if I was looking for help with credit card debt. When I said no, she wished me luck in finding NCO!
I’m mystified, any help appreciated. I must say, though, they may have divisions involved in scams but they are also a legitimate, if unsavory, collection agency. See Wikipedia for an outline directory of the company, its subsidiaries, and its history. I do not think it is safe to just ignore IF you actually owe.

  26. Here are two additional numbers: 877-847-0092 and 877-273-3495. Both numbers are from the same call. One is the number that my voicemail told me the call was coming from when I pressed “5” on my cell phone; the other is the number that the person leaving the message gave for me to call back. This is the first call from NCO in recent memory. It came about a week after getting a call from another, similarly disreputable collection agency called Financial Services Inc. I have not received calls from either company before and have not incurred any new debts recently. Either both companies use the same practices of searching public records to get people’s numbers to call; or perhaps an equally unscrupulous third party is selling this information to both bad collectors.
