In case you are getting calls from the wonderful people at NCO Financial Systems. You should read some messages people have posted about this company. Apart from having to pay $1.5 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), there are also many many claims of state and federal violations of legislation like the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

The company purchases old debt from people like your cellphone provider, hospitals and the government for pennies on the dollar and then tries to collect it. You may have even already paid the bill, like I had, but that is really a minor irrelevant point. The reality is, much if not most of this debt is so old noone has any obligation to repay any of it, least of all not to NCO. Many people have been harassed for debt belonging to neighbors, relatives, old residents of the same address, and co-workers. Don’t pay NCO a penny.

If you receive letters or phone calls from NCO or phone numbers like
800-709-8625 or 888-804-3488 or 877-803-8009 or 800-541-2742 or 888-688-7929 or 800-445-4918 or 866-569-8956 or 800-218-1175 or 800-448-9576 or 800-684-8429 or 866-429-3592 or 800-976-8307 or 877-871-6484 or 800-735-6588 or 800-220-1942 or 877-778-1799 or 800-227-4000 or 800-807-7809 or 866-626-9112 or 866-425-8131 or 800-967-4100 or 877-252-4534 or 877-202-9074 or 888-691-8955 or 888-259-3021 or 800-437-7403 or
800-383-4761 or 866-360-9791 you should read this page about the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If NCO does anything wrong with you, you could be entitled to $1000 per infraction and they may have to pay your lawyer and possibly even your debt.

To halt their “contact”, send NCO a certified, return-receipt cease and desist letter (they throw away all faxes and non-certified letters). A sample letter might read (though, you must seek real legal advice, which I’m not):

This is to advise you that pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) 15 USC 1692c(c), you are hereby notified to immediately terminate any contact with me, or any members of my family or household, regarding any matter concerning the collection of a debt you allege is owed to your company or to your principal/customer/client. This notice shall include, but is not limited to written correspondence, as well as telephonic communication. This letter also verifies that I live at the address above, therefore, any further locator attempts would be a violation of the FDCPA.

Their address is:
NCO Financial Systems, Inc.
507 Prudential Rd

Is NCO calling you? Do you have a new NCO phone number or information? Please leave a comment and share it with the rest of us. Thanks!

NCO may or may not report your debt dispute with them on your credit report. It is important to make sure that if NCO puts anything on your credit report, all of the information is accurate, such as date of debt, last activity on account and the correct amount. That information is not always placed on all three major reports and your valid creditors usually only check one of these sources, so make sure you check all three (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian) for correct information.

Oh, and Miss Hill, thanks for calling ;)

Important! File a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General – easy online form (NCO is a PA company and PA is investigating NCO)

P.S. The Pennsylvania Attorney General recently finished a big case against them, though the complaints continue.

  4. NCO calls almost daily asking for someone with my same name (I have an extremely common last name), but I have no debt that would be in collection. They say that before they can tell me anything about the alleged debt, I have to tell them my date of birth. I say, “I’m not giving you any personal information until you tell me what this is regarding”. So we just go ’round in a circle. They’ve been calling for months, sometimes more than once a day, and they’ve given me no evidence that I am the person they’re looking for, and there doesn’t seem to be any way to get them to stop calling. That seems like harassment to me.

  6. Hey, folks: big class action law-suit is now shaping up against NCO for calling cell phones. If they called your cell, contact an attorney right now and get in on the big payday. It is worth at least a $1,000.00. maybe more.

    • all they do is call my cell phone – after i’ve told them that i do not have unlimited minutes and not to call me. i’ve also sent them written notice not to call me but they still do. now they are saying that i have broken the law and they will report me. this was after i told them that they are in violation of the fdcpa. i am not some idiot – i work in finance and collections and i know the fdcpa! this debt was already paid almost 20 years ago but it reappeared and now i can’t get away from it. not only that but i have been paying just so they won’t sue me, take everything i have and garnish my accounts (their threats) and those payments are made ahead of the due date so they are up to date but every day, i get a call. they yell at me, call my 80 yr old grandmother and upset her and yelled at me so much the other day i had a panic attack. it is so upsetting but you know what they do? they will laugh at you. i’ve put in FOUR complaints with the ftc but nothing has been done and no one has contacted me. they call me multiple times per day and don’t hang up or they will call right back – which is harassment – but meh, no one will do anything to them.

      • Traci,
To end the harassment send to the contact person calling you a certified, return-receipt cease and desist letter. Any other letter is ignored. The certified sticker puts you on the list to receive $1000 for each phone call they make to you after the date on the return-receipt. (I’m not a lawyer, so do your due diligence.) Good luck, you deserve better.
For confirmation check out ClarkHoward.com, search for his page about this problem.

    • Hi Jimmy!

I live in Latvia and have been recieving phone calls from NCO on my mobile and work. I’m not familiar with this collection agency business, but is it against the law for them to call me regarding my loans?

One thing I really would like to do is to validate that they have the right to collect on my debt. Do you know how can I do that?

Thanks a lot for your advice!

  8. they have been calling multiple times each day for over a year. Initially they were horrible in talking to us like we were criminals. They were seeking a person we had never heard of but who had our last name. there was no other link.

In spite of us telling them over and over that they had the wrong number, they have never stopped. We have reported them to the local, state and federal authorities, submitted 53 complaints to the Do Not Call Registry (our number is on that list) and asked law enforcement to stop them. We have even tried to get a court order. all to no avail.

  9. We keep on getting phone calls from NCO Financial Systems and they are calling people that have never worked here. Additionally, their trained staff do not listen to our recording at our phone number 415-267-1821. It is just an incoming voice mail system and they will never get through. We called a couple of times to take the number of the list. They continue so in conclusion we do not care and they will continue to waste their time.

OMG – This is no joke, I received three separate letters, three separate bills, for the same issue (a bill for an ‘automated’ enrollment for 1 on 1 Internet Services) all 3 letter came the same day from NCO !!! Each letter sent to me, dated the same day, states it is for the same issue but for different amount total alleged debt bill owed (which letter ya think they will pick from their mistake to convince me that I owe??).
NCO is a JOKE!!! Of course my lawyer will laugh and send the dispute letter to the joksters (NCO).

  18. You lowlifes calling me vile names because I told you how stupid you are to give a child a cell phone are what’s wrong with parenting today!!! And you use the excuse you bought it for your child’s protection? Right, that’s a good one. Besides needing to get someone to teach you some manners and how to appropriately disagree with someone on a complaint forum like a mature grownup, maybe you should take parenting classes as well. To a young child, a cell phone is a toy, not a communication device used responsibly by someone mature enough to use it. Deal with it, you morons. You suck as parents. I’ll bet your spoiled brats get their own way with everything and you’re the idiots dragging your screaming brats through stores who scream and throw tantrums and even hit their mothers because they don’t get their own way, and you just ignore it. Do the world a favor – don’t reproduce anymore and stay off the grownup internet forums until you learn the words “respect” and “manners.” Adults don’t need to disagree with someone’s opinion by attacking them verbally and using abusive language and calling them all kinds of vile names. Go back to your brats and stay away from adult complaint forums.

      • You know what Barb’s problem is? She is a miserable person who has no life, so she sits on her high horse judging & gossiping about other people. You know, the kind of person that is a Debbie Downer & always negative all the time. She rants about respect & manner, & refers to her self as a mature adult, but yet, she knows NO manners, has NO respect for others & therefore NEVER will get any back, & wouldn’t know mature if it smacked her in her bitter face. She has alot of nerve though. I am a parent of 3 & my oldest with disabilities has her own cell phone for emergencies when she is away from home. That’s my child, my choice, my right, & I pay the bill. Telling people they suck as parents is going too far. I can only imagine the anger she brought up in the parent she is referring to because I already wish I could get 10 minutes face to face with her. She asked for every single reaction she got from her totally tasteless & tactless display. I feel sorry for her children if she is a Mom, & if she is then I use the term Mom loosely with her, because I can’t imagine her being a very good one at that. HEY BARB ! READ THE BIBLE- TAKE NOTE OF WHAT IT SAYS ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE YOU. JUDGE & YOU SHALL BE JUDGED !! OH YEAH, & MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS- GO STICK YOUR NOSE WHERE IT BELONGS- UP YOUR OWN NOSEY ASS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • What in the world are you so mad at? From the very first comment you posted it had been nothing but horrible! This forum was supposed to be about how bad this place is, not about a child having a cell ph or not. Clearly u dont have any kids. But if u do and YOU have chossen not to let them have a cell ph then fine. But who r u to judge other for that? They r not abusing their kids or anything. My ruke for my kids is once u r old enough to pay for one then fine i am all for it. Put thats just me. I would never sit there and call people names like youre in high school. Now that is immature. Thats the problem with a lot of people today. Being honest should never be mixed in with neing harsh and verbally abusive. So barb, put yourself in their shoes and tell me how u would feel if a complete stranger called u names… doesnt feel good does it.

    • hey, barb – rage much? you want to talk about respect and manners, yet here you are, showing people exactly how YOUR parents raised you. ….and as we can see, that was to have no respect or manners towards others, but to bitch and whine and have a bi-polar moment in order to make your point. see, barb, the thing is this: when you resort to name calling and degrading others, you completely lose whatever ground you gained by attempting to be an adult in a conversation. my 12 year old has had a cell phone ever since she was FIVE. she has never, ever lost one. she has never, ever broken one. she has never, ever gone over her minutes, used it excessively, called past her curfew – in short – she has never abused this gift that i, with MY EARNED MONEY FROM MY JOB, gave to her. when i was a police officer, i worked evenings and this was my way to talk to her when i was on duty. trust me, she had all the protection she needed from her momma. maybe, barb, you are just upset because you have issues with your own parents? maybe you can’t have children, therefore you hate them? then again, maybe you just missed med pass. chances are you are just looking for attention. you have proven that you are NOT an adult – since you call children BRATS and attack people on this forum with abusive language. i’m calling you on my cell phone, barb. “hello….pot? this is kettle calling”. now go take your meds.

    866-442-0536
    609-373-1904
    703-656-9956
Most have been when I am not home and I check my Caller ID. When I have answered the caller asks for a name I do not know and I tell them to take me off their list. I have called NCO in PA and they know nothing about these calls. My deduction therefore is that these calls are coming from a vendor of NCO and NCO has no clue what is going on because they do not check up on the companies they outsource to.
This morning I filed a complaint with my state Attorney General and not 10 minutes later on a SUNDAY I get ANOTHER call from NCO! I answered and they are looking for Amanda Wig whoever she is. I told them I had just reported NCO to my AG and don’t call again. So we’ll see what happens.

Anyway, he’s calling to inform me that the University I attended back in 1999 has placed my account into collections effective 6 July, for outstanding unpaid tuition. I had both federal Pell grants & subsidized student loans when I attended school, all my tuition was paid in full. Even if it wasn’t, the statue of limitations only goes so far — this debt he referred to is 12+ years old!! I told him I’d do some research and call him back, the number he gave is 888-899-1591.

I want to have my number removed. The voicemail is from “Lynn Edwards” a woman, but when I call back, the recording is another name, a man. Their number is 866-637-0271. I am in Los Angeles, CA. My last name is very common, and different debt collectors call me occasionally. They never have the correct first name. My fico score is about 800, so no reason for debt collectors to call. I wish we could stop them.

  33. They are calling my 9 year old’s cell phone on a DAILY basis. He tries to call it back while I am at work. I tried to call it back and they only put me on hold waiting for the ‘next available representative’. No one ever answers. I reported it to my carrier, AT&T, and their records show the company # as 000-000-0000. Isn’t that illegal?
My son’s phone number was already on the National Do Not Call list too. I reported it with the Pen. Att. Gen’s office as well per your website information. Here is the number they call us with: 1-800-688-3390.

    • And what the heck is a 9-year-old child doing with a freakin’ cell phone??!!! You really are stupid. Some people should never reproduce.

      • youre right Barb it’s completley moronic to protect youre child using whatever technology available.

you are really stupid. get with the times.

      • Barb….wtf does it matter if a 9 year old has a cell or not..that is not what this forum is about! And guess what? my 6 year old has a cell phone..because I gave him one…so get your head out of your ass…its none of your business and you really should have more manners than to call someone you don’t even know stupid. How would you like it if I said your parents were stupid to reproduce and create such an ignorant person like you?!

      • Ha ha Barb, raise your own children, don’t worry about how other people do. NO ONE, including YOU likes to be told how to raise their kids. Anyhow back to the ACTUAL IMPORTANT SUBJECT, I get calls from the same number, I just ignore them. 800-688-3390 & 772-243-3390

      • Hmmm… giving your nine year old a cell phone or just being a monumentally evil douche bag about it, blowing it out of proportion?

Advice. If THIS is how you respond to something of such negligible magnitude, you’re demonstrating the merits of your own words. Some people truly should never reproduce. I hope to God you haven’t. What an unfortunate monster to be born to.

      • kids these days have cell phones. period. what are you, like 100 years old and just can’t comprehend developments in technology and child rearing? kids have them for emergencies and for parents to keep tabs on them. letting them run loose and “come home when the streetlights go on” just doesn’t happen anymore. especially if you live in Chicago, like i do.

also, saying someone should never reproduce simply because they gave their kid a cell phone is a pretty ignorant statement. so, for all you people reading this thread, consider the source :-P

      • Barb,

Have you ever thought about the fact that most cell phones have a chip in them so that if the child ever comes up missing they can be found IF they have the phone one them? You need to research things before you start bad mouthing the way people parent. You have no idea why these children have cell phones but I will tell you my daughter did give her oldest child a cell phone at the age of 12 just for the reason I stated. If someone was to grab her she could be traced. Don’t be so negative to other people when you don’t know the circumstances.

  34. 704-559-4979 calling cell phone for a person that has my name. Lying, cheating, theives! Block their number from all inbound calls.
